LESSONS
I give double bass lessons to students as young
as age five. Levels taught include Beginner, Intermediate, College
Preparatory, and Adult Amateur.
How do I sign up for Lessons?
I typically meet with the student and parent to
show what the lessons will be like. This initial meeting also gives me
a chance to see the instrument and the bow to make sure everything is
in working order.
Where are the Lessons Taught?
My students have private lessons in my home
studio. In addition we meet twice a month on Saturday mornings for
group lessons which take place in a church hall.
What Instruction Methods are Used?
The materials are called Progressive Repertoire
for the Double Bass by George Vance (3 volumes, pub. Carl
Fischer). In
the intermediate stages they are supplemented by Vade Mecum for the
Double Bass by George Vance (Carl Fischer) and Nouvelle Technique de la
Contrebasse by François Rabbath (pub. Leduc).
The philosophy
of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki is employed as expressed in "Essential Points
for Development of Ability."
